This painting by Jakob Philipp Hackert 'Die Wassafall von Tivoli' is a bit contrived with the water appearing in such volumes halfway up the hillside, but for me it is surprisingly satisfying. Partly due to the circular movement created by the trees at the bottom right through the water on the left and then up to the distant hillside.
I am a professional artist living in Perth Western Australia and NE Thailand. My web gallery Peach Tree Gallery is the first and oldest in the world. I have lived in Thailand on and off for over a decade and my wife owns Mekong House which is the home of the Thailand Painting Holidays guesthouse owned and operated by her sister.
