The monks do their rounds early in the morning.  Each Wat (temple) sends out its own monks.  You wait for them to come by the roadside with bare feet.  Before they come you wai three times to the ground.  Mostly people put food in their alms bowls but they also appreciate other items.  Waree sometimes gives them medicines.  Mostly they collect rice.

As is often the case in Thailand, you are expected to give what you can afford.  If you are poor a few spoons of rice will suffice, but if you are rich you should give more.  You will not earn merit giving something which is of no value to you.

You can join in this simple ceremony with us.
