About the September 2011 Calendar

"The Rest" by Daniel Maidman Happy Fifth Anniversary, Barebrush!—With the launch of the 2011-2012 art season, Barebrush continues to celebrate the nude. The September 2011 N*des-of-the-Month calendar is active and energetic, getting our sixth season off to a great start. Our guest curator, widely-shown artist, author and teacher, Sherry Camhy, is also energetic and inspiring. True to her lifelong fascination with materials (see March 2009 NOTM calendar), Camhy continues to intrigue, mentioning her current work in silverpoint on animal skin parchment. Her selections represent her sentiments well, as she put it:
I will be looking for artists who are honestly attempting to communicate their vision and have succeeded in a memorable manner.

"Sisters -Lead, Zinc and Titanium" by Janet A. Cook The selection process was long, intense and elaborate. Camhy selected over 100 artworks in her first pass through the entries. The process of elimination was torturous. Camhy viewed and reviewed many of the works, reluctantly culling the selections with agonizing carefulness. Finally only 30 remained and she selected the Curators’ Choice nominees. Camhy launches September with an oil painting, Eyes of an angel by Jeremy Holton of Mount Helena, Western Australia. “Outstanding,” was her comment. Her four other Curators’ Choice nominees are: an oil painting, The Rest, by Daniel Maidman of Brooklyn, NY; Sisters -Lead, Zinc and Titanium, an oil painting by Janet A. Cook, NY; Val_W_10-03-10--6AB, pinhole photography by Dan McCormack of Accord, NY; Model and Sculptures a pastel by Tai Lin of Linden NJ.

"Val_W_10-03-10--6AB" by Dan McCormackSix Barebrush artists are making their calendar debut: Will Ellis from New York, NY; Betsy Podlach from Amagansett, NY; Ellen Wahl from New York City, NY; Bruce Erikson from Maineville, OH; Elinore Bucholtz from New York, NY; Desiree Rose from Holmdel, NJ; Marsha Karagheusian from Fort Mitchell, KY. Three artworks are retiring: Father Time by Barebrush Featured Artist, Emily Stedman; Curators’ Choice nominee, Eyes of an angel by Jeremy Holton; Waking by Christian Beels.
